☀️ Cairn

A wizard teacher residing in the Zenith ocean, set in the Lands of Equinox. After their murder and revival that took place during The Starless Town's events, they're now sharing their body with Nydia.

Psyche

An aloof yet humble wizard who often goes by their own pace, usually pretty independent. However, despite their aloof exterior, they prefer to help others out here and there whenever they can—but they have a tendency to keep their problems to themself, trying to sort them out on their own. In conversations, they tend to be the listener.

They also have a self-sacrificing tendency, where they would throw themself right into danger, for the sake of the ones they care about.

Unexpressive as they often look, they can be brutal towards those who hurt their loved ones, sometimes to a violent extent. However, if said harm was directed at themself instead, they appear to be unsettlingly accepting, or they just brush it off in favor of something they deem more important (such as harm to other people)—as if they believe they deserve some sort of retribution for everything they've done.

Magic

They're born with an average amount of Sunlight magic essence, and they utilize Zenith Ocean's magic system. They usually use a trusty wand to cast their magic circles, though, they also have other backup wands to utilize.

They specialize in Light Magic—a magic variant that conjures and manipulates light itself, usually taking form of rays of light. Usually with the help of magic supplements, they're also able to conjure a glowing, solid magic too. Apart from Light Magic, they're able to use various kinds of magic variants too.

With Cairn's experience as a magic teacher, their magic circle takes an intricate form.

However, with Cairn's prolonged usage of magic (ever since the time they were a student), they're prone to fatigue from their magic usage. So they usually carry at least some magic essence supplements with them too.

Wands

• Marigold: The one they use the most often, known to be very sturdy and able to handle a lot of spells.

Magic Variants

Since Cairn is a teacher with years of experience in magic, and they're pretty experienced with teaching different magic variants, they're able to use various kinds of magic variants. They may be able to use unlisted magic variants too, though not as reliably/often.

• Light Magic: The first magic variant they learned, the one they've mastered the most, and the one they're the most known for. They can conjure/manipulate rays of light.
• Fire Magic: The second magic variant they learned and became able to use effectively.
• "Healing Magic": Technically speaking, it's more of Dried Yarrow Magic. Like they're able to conjure dried/powdered Yarrow to be used for medical purposes.

Lore

Rough Story

• cairn was born to a family of powerful wizards, was sent to a revered magic school, and got a good chunk of their magic knowledge from there
  • they met carmine during that time
• due to outside forces, cairn became a mercenary
• became a sailor sometime later
  • befriended nero and their other friend yay
  • the incident. the other friend gets eaten, cairn and nero barely escaped with their lives, then they went from separate paths from there
• wanting to remove themself from their past, especially the incident—cairn changed their entire identity, vowed to not kill again, and took on a scholarly path
• eventually became a magic teacher
  • took velin in as their apprentice at one point
• got more involved in the zenith sea's magic researching scene, to the point nero invited them over to twilight town to join him
  • met several other researchers apart from nero, like carmine (though they never talked about their past until starless town events)
  • due to aggressive disputes, cairn was eventually murdered indirectly by nero (nero made velin kill cairn)
  • got brought back to life by nydia though

During Starless Town events

"Velin is a quiet kid, and I haven't really known them that much, compared to the other kids their age. Though, their works and potential in magic are remarkable. With that said... I just hope they wouldn't walk the same path I once did. They deserved a peaceful life."

A teacher and their apprentice. Their relationship wasn't exactly the closest, but they respect/care for the other. In a way, they're still strangers to each other, unaware of each other's true vulnerability.

Nydia

The one they're sharing a body with, after their revival.

During Starless Town events

"She's went through all the trouble to bring me back to life... I'll do my best to help her out, even if it means I'd have to break this vow..."

"It's only fair that I pay her back with everything I have."

Despite the fact one of them brought each other to life, and they're now possessing the same body—at their core, they're still strangers who keep their own darker sides and memories away from the other. Strangers who have yet to learn about each other's lives.

A good part of their dynamic is "Now that they're very vulnerable around the other, they could've easily hurt/exploit/manipulate the other, but they didn't. They didn't want to."

Their relationship started off as a distant, yet respectful one. Despite being bounded together by circumstances, and being willing to risk themself the other, they'd keep each other at least an arm away from their true self. Too fearful to expose their own vulnerability around the other, and too fearful to ruin their partnership.

With Nydia bringing them back to life, Cairn has been feeling very indebted to her. If it's for her goals, then they're willing to let her use them as a weapon. (Though, they couldn't really comprehend Nydia's genuine desire to keep them alive, for their own sake.)

Post-Starless Town events

If you see those drawings of me drawing Cairn and Nydia being lovey dovey or intimate, it likely takes place after the whole Starless Town situation.

Nero

For a pair who thought of each other as best friends once, they've grown apart too far from each other.

"If it were other people, I wouldn't want to be a burden on them, since I can already feed myself. But if it's Carmine... I'm not refusing a meal from them. It's pretty good."

An old classmate. Cairn did remember them, but with how Carmine would know about their past and abandoned self—their encounter in Twilight island was comparable to two strangers meeting. At least, Cairn wanted to be a stranger to Carmine at first.

Past history aside, they're on good terms with each other, as a researcher and a teacher. With how Cairn sometimes helped Carmine teach/accompany their apprentices, Carmine would treat them with meals in return. Though, sometimes Carmine treats Cairn to a meal just because they feel like feeding Cairn.

infodump territory

• cairn's wizard hat is built for their own utility. they tend to forget to carry their hat around + they use their hood to cover themself from the sun. therefore, their cloak now has foldable wizard hat. cairn cares about having wizard hat bc it's pretty much a quick way to go "yeah i do magic for my work" without flaunting their magic (which uses slightly more energy than pulling the wizard hat/hood on)
• their pendant is created by velin as a way for both of them to communicate from a distance, more explanations in velin's page
• easily fatigued
• they're like in their 30's during starless town events. the "incident" involving nero and other friend happened during their early 20's.
• aroace, didn't have the time to bother with romance this whole time. not really interested in one, either.
• the wand they often use is at least strong enough that if they get pissed off enough, cairn won't end up breaking it by the wrathful wand grip. catch these spells
  • they can also throw hands. so if the wand breaks, their opponent will be catching these hands
  • the wand itself is named Marigold, but only Cairn refers to it by this name, whenever they're talking to their wand
• complicated relationship with their capability of violence.
  • if you were to ask them if they're a sadist, they'd refuse. but however, they're still not entirely sure of that answer.
